Walmart wants to make sure its new spring collections are right for its customers. The retail giant has announced the launch of a trial technology that will lead to higher purchase satisfaction and fewer product returns. The technology came to Walmart through its acquisition of Zeekit, a virtual dressing room company, last year. The new technology will be available to customers who use the Walmart app or shop at walmart. The first phase will introduce the “Choose My Model” feature, which will allow customers to select an avatar similar to their own in height, shape and skin color.

Initially, 50 avatar designs will be offered in sizes ranging from 5’2″ to 6’0″ and XS to XXXL, with plans to add another 70 in the coming weeks to expand size, hair color and volume options. Walmart is focused on launching Try-On Tech across proprietary and exclusive brands including Free Assembly, Scoop, Sofia Jeans by Sofia Vergara, ELOQUII Elements, Time and Tru, Athletic Works, Terra & Sky, No Boundaries, Avia and The Pioneer women. The technology is expected to roll out across all national brands, starting with Hane’s and Levi’s. The retailer also plans to expand the use to clothing sold on its online marketplace. Zeekit compatible items will be marked to indicate that customers can try on clothes virtually.

Ms. Incandela described “Choose My Model” as a starting point for the retailer and their customers. Ms. Incandelathey wrote that they are also working to introduce a virtual fitting experience for womenswear and are moving quickly to bring this revolutionary technology to the customers. With Zeekit’s visionary team, powered by the Walmart Global Technology platform in partnership with their fashion merchandising and e-commerce website merchandising organization, you have an incredible opportunity to revolutionize the way your customers shop for clothing online.

Walmart recently announced the launch of its spring collections for Free Assembly and Scoop. The new items mark the first full collections released by renowned designer Robert Maxwell.
