United Airlines has launched a new digital platform that allows passengers to view all the information they might need for upcoming travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Using “Travel Ready Center,” unveiled on Monday, travelers can download any proof or documentation of vaccination needed for an upcoming trip and find local testing centers. The functionality is accessible both in the United app and on the website through the “My Trips” section.
“While pre-travel documentation and testing is essential to safely reopening global travel, we know it can be confusing for customers when preparing for a flight,” said Linda Jojo, vice president Technology Executive and Publishing Director of United Digital Press. Once travelers have booked travel with United, they can log into the Travel-Ready Center and check their travel needs. Depending on the destination, the function will display information about the documentation or test requirements needed to board the flights.
Once travelers aged 18 and over have uploaded their documents, a United employee will review them. Once the documents have been verified, travelers can check in and receive their boarding pass before traveling to the airport.
In the coming weeks and months, the Travel-Ready Center will expand its offering and introduce new features. In February, passengers will be able to use the digital hub to book a COVID-19 test and will also be able to video chat with a United agent to answer questions about travel restrictions through the airline’s virtual customer service platform. Visa requirements for traveling abroad will also be available at the Travel-Ready Center in the coming months.
If vaccination cards or “vaccination passports” become necessary for travel, this information will also be available in the digital center.
United has developed several digital solutions to make travel easier during the pandemic. Last year, United introduced an interactive travel guide that allows passengers to search and filter destinations around the world based on COVID-19 restrictions.
Last week, American Airlines issued an application for a health passport. Etihad and Emirates have also joined the application for an international health passport.
